What you can do with Snowflake Workload Intelligence

Understand cost drivers

You can see your most expensive queries and even group your queries by their pattern, which we call template, to find those templates that cost the most. This is extremely helpful because in many cases the queries may be identical module constants. For example, a query that calculates the engagement per customer will have a different customer_id for each customer so the frequency or the cost of each unique query may go unnoticed. If you have many customers, being able to automatically cluster those queries together as a single “template” will yield invaluable insight into a pattern that if optimized can result in significant savings. Keebo does this clustering for you!

You can also look at your most expensive users or most expensive warehouses:

With Snowflake Workload Intelligence, you will have the information you need to understand what is driving utilization and thus credit usage. Armed with this information, you can make the adjustments necessary to minimize your credit usage. Knowing the efficiency and utilization of your system, especially with the critical metrics supplied by Snowflake Workload Intelligence, is the first step to optimization.

See the gallery below for more examples of the insights you will get with Snowflake Workload Intelligence.

Advise your data team

The insights you get can assist you in coaching members of your data team regarding efficient queries. Also, the knowledge you gain could help you build new schema and other structures in Snowflake to gain efficiencies for query development and execution.

Stay ahead of the game

If you are like most data people, you don’t like surprises. Running Snowflake Workload Intelligence on a regular basis will help you stay informed about your “heavy hitter” users and queries so you can be ready to adjust as needed.
